UTSA architecture students to unveil public art installation on Houston St. Garage May 11
(May 9, 2018) -- Students in the UTSA College of Architecture, Construction and Planning’s Nexus Lab will host the unveiling of their public art installation, “El Baile de Lucia,” on the façade of the Houston Street Parking Garage (240 E. Houston St. next to Majestic Theatre) at 11am Friday, May 11. The installation is UTSA’s second student design on the Houston Street Garage showcasing architecture as public art; a previous piece was installed by UTSA in 2016. Both installations were completed under the direction of studio instructor Armando Araiza.
The public art installation is a part of the Center City Development & Operations Department (CCDO) and Centro San Antonio’s efforts to activate and enhance the vibrancy of Houston Street. The installation was made possible through the collaboration of the City of San Antonio, District 1 City Councilman Roberto C. Trevino, the CCDO, the American Institute of Architects San Antonio Chapter, Centro San Antonio, El Guapo Fabrication, and UTSA.
