Travis Park Centre
ARC 6996 Master’s Project, Spring 2010
Rick Lewis Studio
A contextually responsive, urban infill project set between historic buildings along Broadway and Travis Park in downtown San Antonio, Texas. Historic precedents and environmental sensitivities are the primary design concerns.
The needs of the growing urban community are addressed by the proposed development of a bank, grocery store, restaurants, commercial retail space, exercise gym, office suites, and residential apartments. A central courtyard space connects the project visually and spatially to the park and to the street while substantially increasing the amount of usable pedestrian space. The exterior walkways and connecting bridges provide an externalized circulation system that, in conjunction with shading devices, will strategically shade the facades and reduce heating and cooling loads on the building. The various landscaped courts and terraces help to shade the paving and reduce the heat island of the project as well as provide for the outdoor enjoyment of the occupants.
