Grad Elective Course List

General Description:

The History and Theory/Criticism and electives in the graduate program are courses which follow specific pedagogical criteria that may be found, but are not necessarily required, in other graduate electives. In both History and Theory/Criticism electives, students learn specific methods of inquiry and research methodology that are grounded within the discipline and address the discourse of the ideas presented in the class. In these courses students engage in research and analysis presented with various methods, including a substantial written project. A “History Elective” is expected to focus on significant examples and questions relative to a specific time period, geographic region or historical theme. A “Theory/Criticism Elective” is expected to expose students to the intellectual context and body of scholarship built around a theoretical discourse within architecture.
