Admissions

Bachelor of Science in Architecture: Admission Requirements

To apply to the B.S. in Architecture program, prospective students are required to complete an overall application to the University.

Available openings within the Architecture Program in the second to fourth year courses are limited and, therefore, admission is competitive and is based on the grade point average (GPA) of the 28 semester credit hours required in the Foundation Year of the College of Architecture. Students must complete all 28 hours of Foundation Year courses to be considered for acceptance into the Architecture Program. Acceptance to the Architecture Program is reviewed and granted only after the completion of the Spring Semester each year.

Other information for prospective undergraduate students:

M.Arch. 2 Program: Admission Requirements

In addition to University-wide admission requirements, applicants must have completed a pre-professional bachelor’s degree in architecture with a minimum grade point average of no less than 3.0 in the applicant’s last 60 hours of coursework (including all graduate and postgraduate coursework taken).

A completed application package consists of the following:

1.  Completed Application form
2.  Official transcripts from all universities attended
3.  Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores
4.  Two (2) Letters of Recommendation
5.  Letter of Intent, outlining the applicant's anticipated focus of studies and its impact on subsequent professional practice
6.  Portfolio, documenting design and other creative work. See full description
7.  Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores for international applicants whose first language is not English

Note: All candidates for admission from schools or programs outside of the UTSA B.S. Architecture degree are subject to review for satisfaction of NAAB SPC B.5, B.6, and B.9. Students whose undergraduate degrees do not demonstrate satisfaction will be required to take additional coursework to remedy this deficiency.
